This special features Lucille Ball as a middle-aged divorcee, Catherine Curtis, coming to grips with life on her own after twenty-three years of marriage. Divided into three dramatic segments, the first act is done entirely as a monologue by Lucille. The second act, "First Night" brings Catherine from being alone in her new apartment to seeking her first romance with a widowed carpenter played by Art Carney. The next segment, "First Love" pits Catherine against the fears and difference in age, when she falls for Peter, played by Joseph Bologna, who is 14 years younger.
